Lanzarote received more tourists in January than ever before in its history in the first month of the year

Nearly 272,000 visitors arrived in January of this year, 10.8% more than in the first month of the previous year

In the first month of 2024, 271,931 tourists arrived in Lanzarote, more than ever before in the island's history during a month of January. Compared to last year alone, that's 10.8% more, according to the Lanzarote Data Center.

The entire Canary archipelago received 1.32 million foreign tourists in January, 9.2% more than in 2023, which is also the highest figure in its history for the first month of the year, according to data collected by the National Statistics Institute (INE) in the Frontur survey.

That volume of arrivals allowed the islands' sector to bill 2.007 billion euros in January, a record for a first month of the year and the second highest figure in history, after the 2.095 billion last December.

In January, the Canary Islands were the main destination for tourists who chose Spain to spend a few days on vacation, with 27.7% of the total number of travelers, followed by Catalonia, with 20.1%, and Andalusia, with 14%.

In spending, the Canary Islands account for almost a third of the entire turnover of the tourism sector in Spain in January, with 2.007 billion out of a total of 6.550 billion, 30.6%.

Next are Madrid, with 1.162 billion; Catalonia, with 1.050 billion; and Andalusia, with 902 million.

In year-on-year terms, the spending by tourists on their vacations in the Canary Islands grew by 17%, to stand at an average of 1,519 euros per person, 7.1% more.

Each tourist who stayed in the archipelago in January spent an average of 177 euros per day on their vacation, 8.4% more, and stayed an average of 8.6 days, 1.2% less.
