So far this year, 272,862 passengers have arrived at Lanzarote airport from peninsular airports, 22.7% more than those who did so between January and May 2022 and 31.8% more than those who landed in the same period of 2019.
Lanzarote is a popular national holiday destination and there are more and more airports in the country with direct flights to the island.
Currently you can arrive all year round with a direct flight from Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Malaga, and from the airport of Asturias. There are also seasonal flights such as those currently linking the island with Vigo, Valladolid and Zaragoza.
The vast majority still choose Madrid or Barcelona
Despite the variety of options, 43.3% of travellers arriving in Lanzarote from the peninsula between January and May chose Barajas for their trip, a total of 118,250 people.
Secondly, 51,277 passengers departed from El Prat airport in Barcelona to Lanzarote between January and May this year, representing 18.7% of the total number of travellers from the peninsula.
The third position is for Andalusia with 11.3% of peninsular travellers to Lanzarote. The figure combines the results of the airports of Seville and Malaga, which totalled 31,049 passengers.
Next are the airports of the Basque Country, from where 24,856 people have arrived so far this year. They account for 9.1% of the total.
From the airports of Galicia, 21,799 arrived, almost 8% of the trips from the peninsula, while from those of the Valencian Community there were 18,051 people, which represents 6.6%.
Finally, from the airport of Asturias departed 2.6% of the travellers from the peninsula in the first five months of the year, were 7,299 people.
