Between January and May of this year, more than one million travelers arrived in Lanzarote by air from foreign airports, a figure that had not been reached since before the covid 19 pandemic.

Specifically, a total of 1,097,214 people arrived in Lanzarote by plane from airports outside the country. That is 16.1% more than those who arrived in the same period last year when arrivals from abroad totaled 920,539.

The figure is also higher than that reached in 2019 when 1,057,077 people arrived from airports outside the country.

The percentage of British people over the total continues to increase

As usual, more than half of those who have arrived in Lanzarote in the first five months of the year have been British, specifically 55.2%. A percentage that continues to increase compared to previous seasons and that highlights the need to continue diversifying markets so that the island does not have so much dependence on a specific market. Last year, British tourism in the first five months represented 53.3%.

In second position is Ireland, from where 125,923 people arrived, followed closely by Germany with 119,540 arrivals.

The fourth foreign market for Lanzarote so far this year is France, from whose airports 83,231 people arrived.

Italy and the Netherlands complete the table of the largest issuers of foreign tourists to the island with approximately 40,000 travelers each.
