The Arrecife City Council has launched in 2024 a new tourist guide so that tourists can directly get to know the entire capital of Lanzarote. The guide was presented at the 'International Tourism Fair', in Madrid, by the mayor of the city Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Tourism, Eli Merino.

Through QR codes, visitors who arrive on the island can directly access this guide where a narrator details, in several languages, the entire history of the capital, its tourist attractions, its commercial and leisure offer, and the places dedicated to culture. The entire guide, promoted by Arrecife Tourism, covers the municipality of Arrecife, including the offer of the neighborhoods in addition to the downtown area.

This year the city commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife and the Corporation chaired by Mayor Yonathan de León wanted to provide a powerful promotional tool with the use of new technologies. The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Commerce, Tourism and Sports, led by Councilor Eli Merino, will develop several actions so that visitors access all the tourist information offered by the capital of Lanzarote.

The mayor and the councilor presented this guide to the tourism agents who attended 'Fitur', and its practical uses to access all the proposals offered by the capital of Lanzarote to visitors. The guide offers detailed information, accompanied by videos, in Spanish, English and German. The tool allows, in future updates, to be offered in other additional languages.

Yonathan de León emphasized during the presentation that the city has "the pride of being the birthplace of César Manrique, the creator of Lanzarote as a destination linked to nature and ecology, of having one of the most beautiful marinas in the Canary Islands, the special charm of the Charco de San Ginés, and having the entire capital coastline surrounded by a large promenade overlooking the castles of San José and San Gabriel. Few capitals of the Canary Islands have so many attractions on their seafront."

QR code in the Madrid Metro campaign

Within a coordinated action, the campaign launched by the Arrecife City Council at the Ifema Metro station in Madrid, with more than 300,000 users these days of Fitur, the poster about Arrecife as a destination already incorporates the QR code that allows the download of this tourist guide about Arrecife.

Councilor Eli Merino highlighted during the presentation that her Department has as a target audience for this guide the more than 500,000 passengers who arrive on average, during the year, at the port of Arrecife on tourist cruises. Arrecife, as is known, leads the arrival of passengers on tourist ships in the Canary Islands.

From the Consistory it is emphasized that the launch of this guide, the first in 'online' format, aims to "position the capital as a place to visit, and stay, and increase the competitiveness of capital tourism, where new openings of small tourist establishments are announced, promoting the use of technologies and advances in tourist information".
