Lanzarote closed last July with 404 young people between 16 and 25 years old registered in search of employment, which represents a decrease of more than 68% compared to the same month last year, when there were 1,280. In addition, the data from the State Public Employment Service also reflect a significant improvement compared to the figures prior to the pandemic. In July 2019 there were 660 young people on the island looking for employment, and currently there are 40% less.

By municipalities, the bulk of the decrease in the number of young people looking for employment is recorded in Arrecife. In the capital of the island there are currently 234 young people registered as unemployed, while in 2021 there were more than triple, a total of 756 people between 16 and 25 years old. Compared to 2019, the decrease is 38%.

The most pronounced percentage decreases, however, occur in Yaiza and Tías, where youth unemployment has been reduced by 80% and 74% respectively in one year. If we compare them with 2019, there are currently around half as many young people between 16 and 25 years old looking for employment.

Teguise experiences a similar drop to that of Arrecife, with two thirds fewer young people looking for employment compared to the same month of 2021. Compared to 2019, the drop is 35%.

In San Bartolomé, on the other hand, there are currently 60% fewer young people looking for employment, if we compare the data with those of July 2021. The comparison with 2019 shows a decrease of 33%.

The municipalities of Tinajo and Haria both had decreases of around 50% of their young people looking for employment compared to the same period last year; while compared to 2019 the decrease is 40%.
