Colon Cancer Prevention Campaign 2022

The Hospiten Group launches the seventh campaign for the prevention and detection of colon cancer. On the occasion of the world day of this pathology, the Group activates a campaign of free tests in order to raise awareness among the population that active prevention should be part of health habits.

Dr. Eliana Montiel, specialist in the digestive system at the Hospiten Sur University Hospital, points out that "this campaign is a necessary initiative that was born with the aim of making us all aware that prevention habits and early detection are necessary when trying to alleviate one of the most widespread cancers in our country".

According to data, colorectal cancer represented the most frequent tumor diagnosed in both sexes in 2022 with a total of 43,370 new cases. This is positioned as the second most frequent cancer in men after prostate cancer, with 26,682 new cases, and the second in women after breast cancer, with 16,508.

To prevent it, experts recommend acquiring healthy dietary habits, following a low-fat diet, rich in vegetables, fruits, calcium and vitamin D, and reducing red meats. In addition, it is also important to lead a healthy lifestyle, avoiding being overweight, smoking, exercising and moderating alcohol intake.

In order to raise awareness among the population of the importance of going to the doctor to carry out tests and collaborate in its detection, Hospiten activates a prevention campaign in which information will be provided on how to prevent this type of cancer and in which the free performance of an occult blood test in feces is offered.

Thus, all people over 50 years of age, or 40 if they have a family history of cancer or colon polyps, interested in participating in this prevention campaign, may make an appointment before March 27, through an online appointment or the Hospiten app. If the result is positive, users will be offered a free consultation with the Hospiten Digestive specialist.
