The transporters of the Canary Islands have decided to abandon the strike, after a meeting held by the Archipelago Transport Board on Thursday morning, in which they have managed to establish a schedule of meetings with the Government of the Canary Islands. The sector in Lanzarote will decide this afternoon whether or not to continue with the protests.
For the moment, the transporters of Lanzarote have continued to block trucks this Thursday morning in the port of Los Mármoles. The president of the group on the island, Artemio Callero, who was present at the Transport Board, explained to La Voz that he will be the one to convey the decision taken at regional level to the rest of the transporters this afternoon.
Thus, he will go to the site near the Jardín de Triana, where all the trucks are parked, to communicate this decision to the transporters. "I am not very convinced to abandon the strike, but that is what the majority has said. I suppose that in Lanzarote it will also be decided to abandon the protest", said Callero, who indicated that until the commitments are not materialized he will not be "happy".
After two days of strikes at regional level and one day of strike in Lanzarote, the transporters have managed to get the Government of the Canary Islands to reiterate to the Ministry of Development the problems generated by the tachograph in the Canary Islands. Thus, a monographic meeting on this tool will be held on July 18.
In addition, they have also managed to get the Port Authority of Las Palmas to commit to "strictly" monitor compliance with the legal requirements for carrying out any transport service in the port area, "to avoid situations that may affect the safety of cargo traffic", according to the transporters in a statement. To discuss this issue, there will also be a meeting on the 17th at the Port Authority.
On the other hand, they have managed to get the Government of the Canary Islands to commit to resume the periodicity in the payment to the transporters of the partial refund of the special tax on fuels, from the last quarter of 2012.
In addition, the transporters have achieved a meeting with the Government of the Canary Islands, which will take place this Friday, to discuss the difficulties that industrial vehicles are having to obtain "the positive visa in the periodic ITV revisions". That same day there will be another technical meeting to study the adaptation margins of school contracts, related to transport.
