Although cruises returned to operate on the island in November, the truth is that the figures are very far from those recorded before the pandemic. In fact, in the first quarter of this year, the port of Arrecife only received 13,492 cruise passengers, 90% less than the previous year, according to figures from the Las Palmas Port Authority published by the Cabildo Data Center.
Specifically, from January to March 2020, 140,046 tourists arrived on board a cruise ship to the island, that is, 126,554 more than in this 2021.
Regarding the current year, the port of Arrecife received 4,355 cruise passengers in January, which in addition to a year-on-year decrease of 93%, also meant a decrease compared to December of 40%, since then 7,298 tourists arrived on a cruise ship to the island.
In February, this figure decreased even more, with 4,044 cruise passengers disembarking in Arrecife, with a year-on-year decrease also of 93% and 7% compared to the previous month.
Finally, in March, 5,093 tourists arrived on board a cruise ship to the capital of the island, a figure that represented an increase of 26% compared to February. However, compared to the third month of 2020, there is a decrease of 75%.
