The Hotel and Extra-Hotel Association of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, Ashotel, has requested the Canary Islands Government for "a greater effort in communicating and reinforcing the key messages on the mobility conditions for this Easter week between islands to avoid confusion among tourists", which it claims is leading to numerous cancellations since this Thursday, due to the restrictions applied to prevent the incidence of Covid-19 from increasing again.
"The rise to alert level 3 of islands such as Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura from March 22 until further notice and the specific restrictions planned for mobility during Easter week have generated considerable confusion among those who had reservations for these holidays and who are transferring to tourist establishments", the employers' association points out.
"Hence the importance of acting quickly so that people who had planned to travel to a different island from their place of residence during this holiday period, or those who had not initially planned to do so, but decide to do so at the last minute, are clear at all times how they can make their trip and under what conditions", he adds.
In addition, he points out that the obligation to have a negative Active Diagnostic Infection Test (PDIA) to travel between islands "is also generating confusion regarding the validity of this test and whether another one is necessary upon returning from vacation if returning to the usual residence".
"For these and many other issues that are being generated by local tourists who have transferred since yesterday to the accommodations where they have reservations for Easter week", Ashotel insists that "an effective communication by the Government of the Canary Islands is urgently needed, to put a stop to the cancellations that are being received due to this lack of clarity and based on information that is ultimately not correct".
