The elections to renew the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote already have a date and will be held on June 1, together with the rest of the Chambers of the archipelago. The announcement was published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands and the call for elections is made by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry of the regional Executive, which is the supervisory body of the Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands.
The electoral process began on October 5, 2021 with the publication of the ministerial order opening the electoral processes for the renewal of the plenary sessions in all the Chambers of Commerce of Spain. After this publication, the Chambers of Commerce have publicly displayed the electoral censuses, a process that ended last November. Since that date, the Canary Islands Chambers have been waiting for the publication of the call order, which includes the deadlines for submitting candidacies, as well as the date of the elections.
The new Plenary of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa will be composed of 24 members, of which 16 will be elected by suffrage, 4 appointed by the most representative intersectoral and territorial business organizations of the demarcation and another 4 will be representatives of the companies with the highest voluntary contribution.
All companies and self-employed workers in Lanzarote and La Graciosa who are on the census are called to participate.
Individuals or legal entities interested in submitting their candidacy, either within the group of companies with the highest voluntary contribution, through business organizations, or as members by suffrage, have a deadline from Monday, April 25 to Monday, May 2.
Those who wish to submit a candidacy as a company with the highest voluntary contribution must also take into account that they have until Sunday, April 24 to make the corresponding financial contribution, with the call order setting a minimum amount of 3,000 euros to participate.
The voting will be held on June 1 only in those categories in which the number of candidates submitted is higher than the number of positions to be filled. Those voters who wish to participate in the voting but anticipate that they will not be able to attend may request a postal vote until April 27.
The Plenary of the Chamber of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is composed of seven categories: Industry and Energy, Transport, Construction, Commerce, Accommodation, Tourist services and Other business activities.
No remuneration
The Chamber reminds that the members of the governing bodies, including the presidency, "do not receive any remuneration".
"The Chambers of Commerce provide services and work with public administrations and the private sector to defend the general interest of the business sector and promote sustainable economic development of their demarcations," they add.
