The entire staff in Lanzarote of Douglas perfumeries has supported this Friday the strike called against the ERE presented by the multinational, which "intends to dismiss 591 workers", according to the Island Union of CCOO in Lanzarote.
According to the union, this would mean the dismissal of "30% of the entire workforce, mostly women." "Douglas executives have shown their total disinterest in finding a solution at the negotiating tables. After seven meetings, the company continues without providing improvements or a credible viability plan.
For this reason, two days of strike have been called on March 12 and 18. "Today, the workers have shown their strength and unity, with the entire staff supporting the strike, keeping all the stores in Lanzarote closed," CCOO highlights.
The union has also held an "informative" rally on Calle Real, in front of the brand's perfumery, which it says has proceeded "normally."

From CCOO shows its "unconditional support" to the strikers, understanding "the fair demands, which are none other than maintaining the jobs of almost 600 families." Therefore, they have called a new act of protest and support at the Douglas perfumery on Calle Real. It will be held on March 18 and "to comply with health measures and social distancing, it will be held for twelve continuous hours, from 08:00 to 20:00 hours."
Finally, the union makes a call "to the participation of the working class of Lanzarote", in what they consider "only the beginning of a bloodletting of mass layoffs in the islands." "We understand that our only weapons are the strike and mobilization. Today it is the perfumery colleagues, tomorrow it will be you and me," he concludes.
