Puerto del Carmen, the main tourist area of Lanzarote, is becoming a benchmark in the global rehabilitation of a mature tourist destination in the Canary Islands. The Manrique family, who 30 years ago opened the old Don Paco Castilla complex in Puerto del Carmen, this Friday inaugurated the first 4-star suite hotel to debut the Puerto del Carmen Modernization Plan, launched by the Tías City Council, which came into effect in January of last year.

"With an investment of close to 17 million euros," said the owner Ascen Manrique, this complex has been transformed globally and now opens with 398 rooms that are committed to family tourism. The new Hotel Sentido Lanzarote Aequora Suites 4 has 5 freshwater pools, a Chill-out area, a pool with hydromassage jets (heatable), a children's "BUBBLES" pool and water games, two multi-sports courts and spacious rooms with a Double, Junior Suite, Suite and Master Suite concept.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, was present this Friday at the official opening ceremony with a wide presence of agents from the sector, tour operators and travel agencies. On behalf of the Tías City Council, in addition to the mayor, the deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Mame Fernández, were present; the deputy mayor and Councilor for Urban Planning and spokesperson for the PP, Saray Rodríguez Arrocha, and the Councilor for Dynamization and Projects, Nerea Santana.

Among the authorities who attended the inauguration were the Deputy Minister of Territorial Policy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mario Pérez, and the general directors of Tourism Planning, Miguel Cabrera, and Tourism Promotion, Rita Hernández, among others.

The representative of the property, Ascen Manrique, thanked the Tías City Council for its collaboration in all the procedures for the modernization of the accommodation complex and pointed out that her family business's commitment to this new hotel is the faith and guarantee in the tourist future that "we have of Puerto del Carmen and Lanzarote", "an island that I knew when I was very young when I came on vacation with my parents, the alma mater of this project that will have a workforce of between 120 and 140 workers, depending on the levels of occupation, which are now high."

The mayor of Tías, the popular Pancho Hernández, said during the opening ceremony that "today we are attending the official opening of the new hotel Sentido Lanzarote Aequora Suites 4*, a comprehensive rehabilitation that is committed to quality and that is committed to a new concept of accommodation. This type of establishment is what the new tourist demands, the one of now and the one of the future."

The mayor added that "in April of last year we were pioneers in a measure that is now unprecedented in Spain. City councils are very fond of imposing taxes, in Tías we eliminated them. We did, to collaborate with the private sector and encourage them to rehabilitate, the withdrawal of the tax on construction, expansion or reform licenses."

Finally, the mayor pointed out that "in a few months we will see that Puerto del Carmen changes for the better. Hotels that are launching a new design and modernization are joined by the improvement of their public spaces, the elimination of architectural barriers, the creation of eco boulevards, the installation of works of art in the roundabouts such as the new Wind toy by César Manrique that we are going to install near here, next to Los Pocillos beach. Improvements that tourists, our visitors, demand and will see shortly," as he highlighted during his speech Pancho Hernández.
