The food chain Mercadona will be installed in the industrial estate of Playa Honda, in the municipality of San Bartolomé. This has been confirmed to La Voz by the Councilor for Industrial Zone, Urban Planning, Industry and Commerce, Juan Carlos Rocío, who explained that the company has submitted the license this Friday to the City Council of San Bartolomé.
Rumors had been circulating about this issue for some time. In October, Rocío stated that "a large area was going to be installed in Playa Honda, yes or yes", although at that time he did not want to give more details. This Friday, it has already been known that this company is Mercadona.
According to Rocío, the company plans to open this large area in mid-2015. The site where Mercadona will be located, which has about 10,000 square meters, is near the new gas station that will also be built in this industrial estate.
Councilor Juan Carlos Rocío has valued this news "positively", as it will "boost the area" and could be a call effect for other companies to also decide to settle in Playa Honda.
Mercadona has also submitted a license to settle in Valterra and Argana Alta, in Arrecife.
