The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands has opened the application period for subsidies for the renewal of commitments aimed at maintaining practices and methods of organic farming, with a total budget of 368,432 euros.
The main objective of these aids is to promote the maintenance of the application of organic farming methods, including livestock, ensuring sustainable agriculture and the protection of natural resources in the long term.
The deadline for submitting applications will be one month, ending on July 29, and applicants who request and renew the commitments initiated in one of the two call periods opened in 2018 or 2021 may apply for these funds.
The measure includes aid for the maintenance of organic farming per hectare in organic production for the cultivation of rainfed and irrigated herbaceous crops; rainfed fruit trees; pome fruit trees; stone fruit trees; citrus fruits; bananas; outdoor vegetables; vegetables under greenhouses; vineyards; and tomatoes. On the other hand, it includes the maintenance of organic farming per hectare in the production of forages and grains for animal feed. It also includes aid for the maintenance of organic livestock per head of cattle referred to the hectare of pasture that makes up the holding.
For her part, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, has highlighted the importance of "contributing to improving the income of organic production by encouraging the increase of the surface area dedicated to this practice".
