The business association of travel agencies of the Canary Islands (ACAVyT) has denounced "the repeated non-compliance of airlines, which continue to request the condition of resident at the beginning of the reservation process."

In statements collected by the tourism news portal preferente.com, the member of the board of directors of ACAVyT, David Déniz, explained: "We have taken the case to the General Directorate of Civil Aviation."

Déniz clarified that the legislation expressly prohibits airlines from requesting the condition of resident before the final phase of the purchase in order to guarantee that they offer the same offers to residents and non-residents.

On the other hand, Déniz believes that airlines are not taking advantage of the resident discount to inflate prices. "Rather, he attributes the price increase to the increase in the cost of fuel and the surprising increase in travel demand once the pandemic has ended."

From ACAVyT they calculate that the average price of tickets has increased between 15% and 20% compared to the pre-pandemic era.
