Bodegas La Morra de Tinajo has launched a white Malvasia wine with which they wanted to "pay tribute to the people who have drawn the landscape of this island, such as our grandparents: those who have made the walls, have put the rofe", as explained by the manager of the winery, Daniel Lasso. The wine, which is called Postal Code 35560 in honor of TInajo, has been well received in its first week, since in this time, according to Lasso, "about 300 units have been sold".
It is the first white Malvasia wine that Bodegas La Morra has released to the market. A wine that has "five labels with five images". The manager of the winery points out that it is "several series with these people working: threshing lentils, planting onions...". In this way they pay tribute to these people who appear "really making the landscape of the island".
"We wanted to release a village wine, that robust wine at the beginning and with different aromas that leave you in the mouth," Lasso pointed out, explaining that what they did not want was "to lose the identity of the village wine."
"It is the first artisan winery on the island"
An identity that Bodegas La Morra preserves in this family project of TInajo and that, according to Lasso, "is the first artisan winery on the island." In this winery they make all the wines in the lagar; a lagar of their grandparents, of about 500-600 liters, "where the grapes are worked and with all the love." A project that they have developed in an "independent way, without subsidies," the manager highlighted, pointing out that they do not receive aid from the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
It should be noted that, apart from this white, Bodegas La Morra has released a young sweet Muscat wine in a Roman amphora bottle. "Each one is unique," says the manager, pointing out that in it "comes a booklet hanging from its handles where it explains a little about the rofe and the tradition of wine on the island." In addition, he announces that in a week or two they will release the traditional red and rosé.
A winery in Tinajo that is reaping successes, since they have sold "almost everything" they have bottled "in very few days." "People want to try new things and collaborate with artisan wineries of this type," emphasizes the manager of Bodegas La Morra.
