The Ministry of Health has reported two new deaths in the Canary Islands linked to the coronavirus in the last hours, one in Fuerteventura and the other in Tenerife. These two deaths raise the number of deaths registered in the last seven days to 11 and to 29 in the last five weeks, in which the number of deaths has been growing again.
When August began, the archipelago had gone almost two months without regretting any deaths linked to Covid-19. However, on the 7th that trend was broken and since then the figure has been increasing, especially in recent days, with two deaths a day and up to three and four in one day.
However, the figures are still far from those recorded in the first wave of the pandemic. The first death in the islands took place on February 13 and that same month ended with a total of 69 deaths in just over 15 days. After, April left another 72 deaths, raising the accumulated figure to 141.
However, in May the number of fatalities began to decrease, leaving a total of 19 that month, and in June only two were recorded. The last one was on June 12 and there was not another one until almost two months later, on August 7. Since that date and until this Thursday, 29 more deaths have already been added, raising the total accumulated figure to 191.
Regarding the deaths this Thursday, the Ministry has indicated that one of them was a migrant who had arrived in Tenerife and tested positive for Covid-19.
