The Head of Government, Pedro Sánchez, has asked the regional presidents face to face this Friday to reach an agreement "once and for all" to solve the problem of the distribution among communities of migrant children arriving in Spain.
Sánchez has demanded this agreement in his initial speech at the Conference of Presidents, which is being held behind closed doors in Santander.
The Executive has reported that, in those words, Sánchez referred to the existing situation due to the lack of agreement to reform article 35 of the Immigration Law and achieve an equitable distribution of unaccompanied foreign minors.
In view of this, the President of the Government has called on the regional leaders to agree "once and for all" on a shared solution to the problem through objective criteria, appealing to the solidarity of all the communities.
He has also asked them to join a responsible and supportive immigration policy, based on science and not on prejudice, and to be responsible with Spain's demographic and labor needs.
In the same way, he has demanded that the autonomous communities join the Government's initiatives to promote regular migration, joining the international circular migration agreements, promoting regulated labor alternatives and contributing to the Integration and Intercultural Coexistence Plan that the Executive will present shortly.
