The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has notified this Wednesday 243 new cases of coronavirus, as well as another five deaths registered in the last day. All five have occurred in Tenerife and one of the deceased was only 38 years old. The rest, three other women and one man, were between 94 and 97 years old. According to the Ministry, all the deceased had "previous pathologies".
As for the accumulated incidence, it stands this Wednesday at 68.45 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days and 139.50 in 14 days, thanks to the high rates in Tenerife.
Of the 243 new cases diagnosed in the last day, 146 are concentrated in Tenerife, which has 4,494 active cases. Gran Canaria has 10,163 accumulated cases, 59 more than the previous day and 969 active. Lanzarote has 10 new cases, so its accumulated cases are 1,509 and the active ones are 51. Fuerteventura has 979 accumulated cases, with 11 more cases than the previous day and 50 active. La Palma registers 14 new cases and has 269 accumulated and 41 active; La Gomera adds two new cases, placing the accumulated at 181 and the active at 50, while El Hierro adds a new case, so its accumulated are 73 and the active are 4.
30 outbreaks in the last week
Regarding the outbreaks that are reported weekly, the Canary Islands has detected 30 in the last seven days, with a total of 185 associated cases. These 30 new outbreaks join the 99 active ones under follow-up already declared in previous weeks.
Of the 30 registered outbreaks, 20 have occurred in Tenerife, 8 in Gran Canaria, one in La Palma and one in Fuerteventura. Regarding the area in which they have occurred, 21 are family outbreaks, four social, four work-related and one was reported at the Dr. Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
In the case of Lanzarote, no new outbreaks have been reported this week (which involve three or more active cases linked to each other), despite the fact that in the last three days alone 24 positive cases have been detected.
