The Government of the Canary Islands approved in its ordinary session this Thursday, November 18, to activate as of December 1 the performance of screenings to contain the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through diagnostic tests of active infection (PDIA) to passengers entering the Canary Islands from the rest of the national territory, by air or sea.
The recovery of this measure implies that those people who arrive in the Canary Islands from another Spanish region must carry the vaccination certificate against COVID-19, or a negative diagnostic test for active infection or the certificate of having passed the disease less than 6 months before the date of travel.
This measure, which was launched on December 18 and ended on September 30, is a necessary tool to continue with the control and containment of imported cases of coronavirus in travelers from other parts of the national territory and while the rate of vaccination against COVID-19 is accelerated.
The Ministry of Health modified the rule at the beginning of July, excluding passengers under 12 years of age who enter the Canary Islands from the rest of the national territory, by air or sea, from screening by means of diagnostic tests of active infection (PDIA), in order to contain the spread of infections caused by SARS-CoV-2.
For the rest of the population over 12 years of age (or 12 years of age), the regulations that require a negative PDIA for SARS-CoV-2, performed within 72 hours prior to arrival in the Canary Islands, will continue to be in force.
Cases of exclusion from the performance of the PDIA
The presentation of a negative PDIA is not required at the time of entry to the Canary Islands in the following cases, in addition to children under 12 years of age:
-Persons in transit through the territory of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, that is, those who make a stopover in the Canary Islands whose final destination is another country or another place in the national territory.
-Persons who prove that they have been outside the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for a period of less than 72 hours prior to arrival, regardless of their place of residence.
-Persons vaccinated against COVID-19 with the complete vaccination schedule within 8 months prior to travel, or with one dose more than 15 days in advance and within four months prior to travel.
-Persons who have passed the disease less than 6 months before the date of travel.
The COVID-19 vaccination and recovery certificate can be obtained in the application www.micertificadocovid.com or by accessing miSCS, within the miHistoria web space.
COVID Certificate
In addition, the Governing Council of the Canary Islands commissioned the Ministry of Health to promote the implementation of the COVID Certificate in the islands and for this it must analyze which sectors and activities will be affected as well as how to materialize it.
