The Buganvilla Express miniferry of Fred. Olsen Express celebrates one year connecting Playa Blanca, in Lanzarote, and Corralejo, in Fuerteventura. Since last July 22, 2024, it has made 2,300 trips between the two islands, transporting more than 103,000 people.
With a crossing of 35 minutes and capacity for 250 passengers, this miniferry is consolidated as the means for day trips, since more than 63% of passengers, specifically 65,500, have chosen it for this type of travel.
The fleet director of Fred. Olsen Express, Juan Ignacio Liaño, explains that "thanks to this ship we have been able to consolidate our commitment to the transport model of excursions, in which people without vehicles are prioritized, who, in most cases, travel with return on the same day. Proof of this is the passenger data, mostly non-residents, contrary to what happens in the rest of our routes."
Currently the Buganvilla Express offers 10 daily connections between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, with 5 departures from each port. These are added to those operated by the Bocayna Express catamaran, which transports passengers, vehicles and cargo, which translates into a total service of up to 26 daily connections, 13 from each island.
The Buganvilla Express is a newly built miniferry exclusively for passengers of 26 meters in length and 9.80 meters in beam, powered by two engines of 1,470 horsepower each.
Designed and manufactured in the national shipyard Rodman Polyships of Vigo, it has interior and exterior decks, as well as a bar-cafeteria service, on-board entertainment options and wifi connection.
