The Government of the Canary Islands and the Popular Party have signed this Tuesday an agreement on the migratory emergency, which involves the 12 autonomous communities and the two autonomous cities governed by the PP, and which will be sent to the Central Government for negotiation.
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the PP president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, together with the vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, presented at a press conference this agreement that establishes nine points, including the criteria for the referrals of unaccompanied minors arriving on the coasts of the Canary Islands and Ceuta and the modification of article 35 of the Immigration Law.
Feijóo pointed out that this document is a roadmap in the face of the absence of a migration policy, has accused the central government of giving "swerve to swerve" and of not fulfilling its powers in migration policy, immigration and return of irregular immigrants.
The document contemplates the convocation of a conference of presidents to discuss migration policy and the declaration of a national migratory emergency and, as far as minors are concerned, the percentages in which the autonomous communities will have powers over the minors welcomed and over those for which the central government will be responsible are determined.
