The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has reported that 49,851 passengers have arrived at the Canary Islands airports from Spanish territory with a negative Covid-19 diagnostic test, which represents 85 percent of the total.
The control of travelers, which remains in effect until January 10, was established on December 18 with the entry into force of the order regarding the performance of screenings to contain the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, to passengers entering the Canary Islands from the rest of the national territory, by air or sea.
To this end, the Ministry of Health established control points in the six airports that operate with national flights, so that all passengers arriving in the Canary Islands from other autonomous communities can present the diagnostic test certificate upon arrival in the islands. In total, 461 flights from the national territory have arrived in the islands since December 18.

A total of 160 travelers, of whom 156 were residents of the Canary Islands, who underwent diagnostic tests for active infection at the point of origin and in the laboratories with which the SCS has arranged an agreement, tested positive when the test was performed. Of the 160 diagnostic tests for active infection that tested positive, 146 were by PCR and 16 by antigen detection test. All positive cases were instructed to isolate and did not travel to the destination. Likewise, a total of 73 positive cases were recorded in the tests carried out at the destination, keeping the corresponding isolation.
Travelers who do not present the certificate upon arrival are identified, registered and summoned to carry out isolation at home until they obtain a negative result of a diagnostic test at the destination.
Free test
The Ministry of Health reminds that, until January 10, travelers residing in the Canary Islands who are going to return to the islands can take the free diagnostic test at the Eurofins Megalab centers, located throughout the peninsular territory, arranged by the Canarian Health Service for this purpose.
To do this, you must make an appointment at the laboratory closest to the address you are going to go to or at 911 087 080. The traveler must present the printed supporting documents at the time of the test (test voucher downloadable from the web, photocopy of the DNI or residence certificate and photocopy of the flight voucher to the Islands).
Supporting documentation for the test
The supporting documentation for the test must be the original, written in Spanish, in QR, paper or electronic format and must indicate the name of the traveler, passport or DNI number, date of the test, identification and contact details of the authorized health center that performs the test, technique used and negative result of the test. In the case of antigen tests, the specificity and approved sensitivity must also be reflected.
Interested parties or laboratories, with the express authorization of the interested parties, will send the analytical results electronically to the Canarian Health Service, to the address pdiasviajes@gobiernodecanarias.org, prior to their arrival in the Canary Islands. In the cases of express authorization for data processing, the remission of the results will be the obligation of the laboratories.
In cases where such express authorization is not granted, the remission of the results will be the obligation of the interested parties, who must send the supporting documentation of the test to the indicated email address, stating in the subject of the email the flight or crossing number and the date of arrival of the same.
Performing the test at the destination
In the exceptional case that the passenger has not had the diagnostic test performed in the 72 hours prior to arrival, they must isolate themselves in their residence and perform it in the 72 hours following their arrival, and must send the result to the SCS, through the enabled email.
Isolation must be maintained until obtaining and sending a negative diagnostic test or, where appropriate, epidemiological discharge. Residents may take this test free of charge, for which they must call 900 112 061. Those who do not take the PDIA must keep isolation in their residence for 10 days and are exposed to the foreseen sanction.
