After the announcement by CD Evesport to suspend the remaining rallies scheduled in Lanzarote for the end of the season, CD Marmape Motorsport has taken "a step forward" and is trying to organize the events on the island. This Thursday night, a hundred people met with the Minister of Sports, Alfredo Mendoza, to see the possibility of holding motor events in the final stretch of the year.
“We athletes cannot stand still, and the best thing we can do is to step forward to try to carry out the events we have”, said the president of the club, Marcial Álvarez, on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero. To reach that conclusion, different protagonists of the automotive sector met last Thursday at the Tinajo Sociocultural Center.
“The counselor gave quite credible explanations, and I know that the Cabildo and the institutions have tried to carry out the rally. But there is a law, there are things that need to be corrected”, explains Álvarez, who emphasizes that it has to be debated what has happened “so that it does not happen again.”
“Sometimes the value that motorsport deserves is not given. The drivers are federated athletes, who get a license and pass certificates” points out Álvarez, who also assures that what rewards the drivers is “sportsmanship”. “What will take us far is dialogue and unity, and that is what we should always emphasize”, he asserts.
Clear objective: to carry out the events in Lanzarote
Marcial Álvarez points out that they are working on how their club can organize them. “What we want is to organize, but it depends on the president of the Las Palmas Automobile Federation", assures Álvarez, who clarifies that for that to happen they would first have to deny permission to Evesport, who does not want to organize them, and give it to Marmape Motorsport.
“We are on a tight schedule, but we can reach the Haría Uphill Race”, anticipates Álvarez. “With the contacts of the people of Haría, I want to think that all the documentation has already been presented”, adds Álvarez, since Evesport had to request the permits in the period of 90 days prior to the celebration of the event.
“Evesport should transfer that documentation, together with the security plan required by law, to take advantage of it and for the event to go ahead”, explains Marcial Álvarez, who emphasizes that the clubs of Lanzarote “are not going to let the event fall”. “Now everything depends on dialogue”, he adds.
“We have to be positive”
Marcial Álvarez has acknowledged that, despite what happened with the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally, we have to be “positive”. “We are working to correct these errors”, he points out, and also assures that he is aware that there was “a meeting in Cabildo” to discuss the rally issue.
“The law establishes that it must be presented three months in advance, but we are going to try to advance the documentation so that the councils have more time to study the permit, and also if there is an error, we have time to correct it” says the president of CD Marmape Motorsport.
“We have made a fool of ourselves on all sides, we have to stay with the positive and purge responsibilities, and see if we move forward”, he concludes.
