Sergio Machín and Pilar Sosa, winners in the queen category of the Famara Total

The sports event celebrated the 7.5, 15, 30 and 46 kilometer categories last Saturday

Nearly a thousand mountain running enthusiasts once again chose Famara Total, an event that the City Council assures combines "sport, landscape, nature and fun." In this edition, Sergio Machín and Pilar Sosa have been the ones who have managed to cross the finish line in first position in the queen category of 46 kilometers.

After the celebration of the Vertical Famara Total by European Sport Destination last Thursday and the Famara Total Chinija on Friday, this Saturday it was the turn of the participants in the four race categories, of 7.5, 15, 30 and 46 kilometers, and the 7.5 kilometer hiking category.

The Famara pier has once again been the nerve center of the event and runners began to gather there shortly before the first ray of sunshine appeared. In the 30 kilometer race, a beautiful duel could be seen in the men's category between the renowned trailrunners Yoel de Paz and Chema Martínez, with victory for the palmero, who repeated his position on the podium after having done so in the Vertical Famara Total by European Sport Destination.

The participants of the queen event, together with those of 30 kilometers, were the first to start at 07:00 hours. The participants in the 46 kilometer category had a very demanding route, with an accumulated elevation gain of more than 3,500 meters, but with a route that took them through spectacular places and that met the demands of the runners most accustomed to the mountains.

Sergio Machín stopped the clock at 4 hours, 12 minutes and 8 seconds, while the second position went to Jachison Hernández and third crossed the finish line Jonay Medina. In the women's category, María del Pilar Sosa had no rival and repeated victory in this event, with a total time of 5 hours 34 minutes 10 seconds. The second position in women's was for Georgina Abdul Jalbar Hernández, and Claudia Adriana Gallina closed the final podium.

In the 30 kilometer category there was a special duel, two runners who represent the history and the future of this sport, Chema Martínez and Yoel de Paz. They were the great protagonists and showed that they know how to suffer and enjoy in this type of race. With an elevation gain of more than two thousand meters, and investing a total time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 56 seconds, De Paz arrived in first position at the finish line. Second came Chema Martínez, who is still resisting the triumph in this event, and Santiago Castellano closed the men's podium. Inés Astrain was the first woman to cross the finish line stopping the clock at 2 hours 54 minutes and 30 seconds, and María Cristina Morales and Rocío Martínez completed the podium of the 30 km category.

At 08:30 hours the participants in the 15 kilometer category started, a race that has a great elevation gain despite not being a long distance and that puts the runners to the test from the first kilometers. The triumph in this category was for the young Lanzarote runner Raúl Caraballo Santos, who reached the finish line in 1 hour, 17 minutes and 23 seconds. The second position was for Joseba Urbano and Carlos Jesús Hernández Marichal climbed onto the last step of the podium.

In women's, the victory was for the Lanzarote native Ruth Brito, a regular at this event, which was once again a spectacular race, managing to stop the clock at 1 hour, 36 minutes and 32 seconds. Belinda Guillén Callero was the second to reach the finish line and Elena Rodríguez de Vera was third.

Finally, the participants in the 7.5 kilometer category started, a beautiful race for those who are starting out in this sport or for those who just want to enjoy a good sporting and social day. Tinguaro Quintero achieved the triumph with a time of 30 minutes and 41 seconds, and Rayco Hernández and Antonio Jesús González completed the podium. In the women's category, Cristina Capitán Martín was the winner, reaching the finish line in 38 minutes and 47 seconds. Elizabet Perdomo Cabrera and Lucía Campos were second and third respectively.

With the awards ceremony attended by the mayor of the Teguise City Council, Oswaldo Betancort, together with several councilors of the institution, and with a musical performance on the Famara pier, the seventh edition of the event closed. The VII Famara Total has been organized by the Teguise City Council, Cronoline Eventos, SICAN and K3 Servicios Deportivos Integrales.
