Last Saturday, the Canarian Championship by Categories was held in the "Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez" arena in Tías, with the participation of the best wrestlers in the regional "A", "B" and "C" categories, unclassified wrestlers, as well as youth and cadets. In women's wrestling, the senior and youth categories will be contested.
This competition ended with good holds, hosted in the southern arena of Tías with a regular entry of fans. Four o'clock in the afternoon is not the usual time on our island.
Only two wrestlers from Lanzarote were able to win the regional belt. Orlando Medina, from Tías Cabrera Medina Hotel Faraones, who in the regional "C" category had to settle for the runner-up position as he fell after going fight to fight with the Tenerife wrestler Añaterve Abreu. The other runner-up from our island was the youth wrestler from Tías Cabrera Medina Hotel Faraones Kiren Gonzalez, who fell in the final against the wrestler from the island of Gran Canaria Álvaro Déniz.
Entering the rest of the competition, in the regional "A" category the colossus of El Hierro Francis Pérez "Pollito de la Frontera" was proclaimed regional champion by defeating Romén Luís "Catire IV", whom he managed to give the first, and the following two holds ended in separated.
In the regional "B" category, the wrestler from the island of Gran Canaria Joan Lajos, with good holds, defeated his compatriot Luis Sánchez Guedes.
In the category of unclassified, the two wrestlers from our island, Efraín Perera, from San Bartolomé Construcciones Acosta, and Alberto Cabrera "Tense", from Tao Cicar, were defeated and could not reach the grand final. The one who did arrive was the wrestler from Araya de Tenerife Eliser Gutiérrez, who defeated in the final the wrestler from the island of La Palma Miguel Ángel Rodríguez "Medianito II". In the cadet category the champion was the wrestler from Castillo de Gran Canaria Cristóbal Suares, who won in the final against the wrestler from the island of La Palma Santi Hernández. The wrestlers from our island Javier Díaz and Juan Rodríguez did not qualify for the grand final.
In the senior category of the women's modality, the champion was the wrestler from the Santa Rita de Gran Canaria wrestling club Joana Cano, while in the youth category the champion ended up as champion the wrestler Jennifer Pérez.
Unión Sur Yaiza defeated Tetir on Friday by 12 to 9
Last Friday the Unión Sur Yaiza Grupo Rosa wrestling club faced Tetir from Fuerteventura. The wrestling match, friendly, was held in the arena of the Socio-cultural Center of Playa Blanca, on the occasion of the festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. With good attendance of spectators as usual in the wrestling matches that take place in the festivities of the towns, began this wrestling match that ended with victory for those of our island by 12 to 9. Ramón Pérez stood out for the locals by defeating Efraín Perera, a wrestler who had just brought down Francis Aisa.
Tao Cicar played two friendly wrestling matches in La Graciosa and Tahíche
The Tao Cicar wrestling club played two friendly wrestling matches during the past weekend. The first on Saturday night in the arena of the island of La Graciosa and on the occasion of the festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The arena of Tahíche was once again too small to hold this wrestling match, which ended with a victory for Tao Cicar by 12 to 9. The wrestler who decided the fight was Francis Pérez "Pollito de la Frontera", by defeating Juan Ramírez and Añaterve Abreu. For the locals Alberto Cabrera "Tense" left Francis García out of the fight, a wrestler who had just brought down two opponents, one of them Miguel Ángel Betancort. For his part, Francisco Martín "Fafi" and Patrick Cazorla eliminated each other.
Saturday Canary Islands Weight Championship for youth category
Next Saturday, July 23, the Canary Islands Weight Championship for the youth category will be held in the Tetir arena in Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura. The wrestlers who represent our island are the following: in the category of less than 60 kilos, Francisco Javier Cabrera de León, from the San Bartolomé Construcciones Acosta wrestling club; from 60 to 66 kilos, the wrestler from San Bartolomé Construcciones Acosta Adán Rodríguez Viera; in the category of 66 to 73 kilos, Ayonath Caraballo de Ganzo, from Unión Sur Yaiza Grupo Rosa; from 73 to 81 kilos, the wrestler from the Mega Centro Playa Honda wrestling club Jesús Pérez Figueras; in the category of 81 to 90 kilos, the wrestler from Unión Norte Orvecame Juan Antonio Ramírez Robayna; from 90 to 100 kilos we will be represented by the wrestler from Mega Centro Playa Honda Marcial Viñoly Bernal; in the category of 100 to 110 kilos Samuel Hernández de León, from Tías Cabrera Medina Hotel Faraones, will fight; and in the category of more than 110 kilos, Kiren González Fernández, from Tías Cabrera Medina Hotel Fariones, qualified, although this wrestler was injured after the championship by categories last Saturday in Tías, so he is doubtful to participate in this competition.
