The start of the III Rallysprint Yaiza tonight could not have been more exciting, for disparate reasons on this occasion. First, due to the arrival of rain in this area of the mountains of "Los Ajaches", which greatly affected the asphalt of the La Breña-Las Casitas timed section through Femés. Then the great time of Yeray Lemes-Aitor Cambeiro, which left the other Porsche 911s of Toñín Suárez-Jorge Cedrés and Oliver Rodríguez-David Rivero more than half a minute behind. The night of surprises does not end here, as the gearbox of Yeray's car gave up and he was knocked out of the rallysprint before the start of TC2 and after the coup he had just given to the classification.
With these premises, the one who ate the paella from the Chiringuito Tropical in the assistance area in Uga, would be none other than the current island champions Suárez-Cedres, who took the scratch in the second pass in the opposite direction and at the same time became the leaders of the night part, with 10.8 seconds ahead of Rodríguez-Rivero with another of the Porsche 911 GT3. Alfredo Guerra-Lara Curbelo with Peugeot 208 Rally4 were placed third on the provisional podium, 20.9 behind the race leader. And Alexander Barros-Brenda Pérez's Honda Civic were excellent fourth classified.
The asphalt of the section was very delicate, especially in the first pass with the fine rain that covered everything with water and the cars with dry tires. To give you an idea, Toñín lowered his time from the first pass by 42 seconds, 24 seconds in the case of Oliver.
Six teams had problems completing these two night sections, in addition to Lemes, Oscar Cabrera's Citroen C3 Rally2 could not complete them either. And in the case of José Manuel León due to a road exit without consequences with the Citroen Saxo.
This Saturday the remaining four passes will be held from 9:30 a.m. and as a novelty, the first two in the same direction and the last two in the other direction. And the normal and usual thing in Lanzarote is that they can be played with sunny weather and no rain is expected as it appeared tonight.
The day ended with the paella in the work park for all the teams and the organizers of the CD. Evesport, courtesy of Chiringuito Tropical, with its owner Luis, a specialist in its preparation.
