A total of 622 competitors will take the start in the second edition of the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote half-distance triathlon, which will take place next Saturday, October 5, with start and finish at the lake and at the Club La Santa facilities, located in the town of the same name in the municipality of Tinajo.

The event was presented on Wednesday morning by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Migdalia Machín; the director of the event, Kenneth Gasque; and the director of La Santa Club, Frederick Sohns.

The Ironman 70.3 consists of three events, the distances of which are half that of the Ironman Lanzarote that takes place in May. The first, 1.9 kilometers of swimming; the second, 90.1 kilometers of cycling on the roads of the north of the island; and culminates with 21.1 kilometers of running through the town of La Santa.

In her speech, the island's Minister of Youth and Sports expressed her "satisfaction that Lanzarote is hosting this competition of the prestigious international brand Ironman for the second time, which confirms Lanzarote as the Canary cradle of Triathlon." Machín also wanted to "thank the volunteers and emergency services for their selfless collaboration, who will ensure the safety of the competitors and that they do not lack help when they may need it."

Collaboration "in all the tests we have organized"

The director of the event, Kenneth Gasque, thanked "the Cabildo and the municipalities of the island for their collaboration with this event, as with all those that we have organized and celebrated on the island so far." Gasque explained in broad strokes the details of the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote, highlighting the "attractive route of the cycling event, along the roads of the north of Lanzarote, which includes the tough climb to Tabayesco", as well as "the beautiful surroundings of the running event, with three laps through the coastal town of La Santa."

The director of the event agreed with the Minister in her request to "those who go out on Saturday with the car, both to watch the event and to travel around the island for other reasons, to go calmly, with caution, and to be patient" so that the participants can compete safely both in their cycling and running events. This is very important given that in this second edition wheelchair athletes will take part, who require special attention due to their greater vulnerability on the road.

For his part, the director of Club La Santa, Frederick Sohns, welcomed "all the athletes and participants in this second edition of the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote", which he was confident will be "a success", developing "in the best possible safety conditions and that it passes without incident."
