For the second consecutive trophy, the strong wind has been the protagonist of the weekend in Lanzarote. On Saturday the 12th, three races were held with truly harsh conditions. The wind of about 25 knots with gusts above 30 knots, made the race a spectacle, and put the crews in trouble.
The first race of the day was held with a wind of 60º, with an intensity of around 20-25 knots. The course was quite short, which meant that the fleet arrived very close together at the first buoy, causing quite a few collisions. In the first downwind leg, Rayco Tabares quickly stood out, showing his mastery of the boat in tough conditions. This is how he reached the finish line, followed by Brues y Fernández de Nano Negrin and Ferrer Casual Wear de Pedro Ferrer.
Between the first and second race, the wind shifted a lot to the left, so the race course had to be relocated, positioning the windward buoy on the same beach of Los Pocillos, just 100 m from the sand. The wind picked up quite a bit with gusts of more than 30 knots. The upwind legs were very complicated, but in the downwind legs the boats easily started planing. The race was dominated by Leonardo Armas with the Rade optical center, followed by a group of five boats in the last pass through the windward mark. In the final downwind leg, Rayco Tabares went to the opposite side of the leading group and passed everyone, taking a comfortable lead. He was followed by Centro Óptico Rade and Marina Rubicón II by Rafael Lasso.
The last race of the day was dominated from the first downwind leg by the Hotel Princesa Yaiza, who won the race followed by Centro Óptico Rade and Ikos by Alejandro Morales. In this last race, the Hotel Fariones boat by José González broke the mast after the failure of the windward shroud. It was the only major breakage of the fleet.
In group B, Rotini by Rafael Barbadillo won the three races of the day.
On Sunday, the wind picked up even more, so the race committee decided not to take the boats out to the water given the complicated wind and sea conditions.
After this fourth race of the Island League, the Hotel Princesa Yaiza boat consolidates its first position with three victories, followed by Centro Óptico Rade by Leonardo Armas and J.J. Palmensis by Gustavo Martínez.
The next League race will be held on May 17 and 18 in Marina Rubicón, within the II Marina Rubicón Nautical Days.
