The wind is being reluctant in the first two days of the XXVI Canary Islands Championship of 5-Meter Latin Sail Barquillos. Once the start of the day had to be postponed, with those in charge looking for the best wind conditions. The Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani of Nete Armas remains at the top of the standings, although the Furia II Nissan of Estanis Bethencourt is just one point behind the lead.
The second day of the XXVI Canary Islands Championship of 5-Meter Latin Sail Barquillos began with uncertainty, as the wind did not appear in the Marina Colón area at the time it was scheduled to begin. The Regatta Committee had to use ingenuity to find the wind that could make the third and fourth regattas scheduled for Sunday morning a reality.
Finally, it was near La Bufona where the starting line could be set up, with a race course that reached the vicinity of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and to which the boats had to make two laps. After an initial postponement, the wind was blowing with an intensity of about eleven knots, being optimal to start the barquillos.
In the first regatta of the day, the start was quite eventful, with the first two starts being null. In the third start, the Furia II – Nissan of Estanis Bethencourt gained an advantage over the rest of the boats, entering the finish line as the winner and having a very calm end to the regatta. The Fayna of Alfredo Morales took the second position and the Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani of Nete Armas entered in the third position.
The second heat of the day had a very similar race course, with the difference that the finish line was placed very close to the dock of the Centro Insular de Deportes Náuticos, so that fans could enjoy the arrival of the boats. The Fayna was second after a tight finish with the Biosfera Express of Manri Rodríguez and the Guatiza of Marcial Rodríguez.
With the dispute of the first four regattas of the XXVI Canary Islands Championship of 5-Meter Latin Sail Barquillos, the boats have been able to discard their worst result. The Congelados Africamar – Cínica Jorgani remains in first position, with a one-point advantage over the Furia II – Nissan and two over the Fayna. In the fourth position are Guatiza and the Biosfera Express – La Graciosa five points behind the lead. The first eight positions in the standings are occupied by boats from the island of Lanzarote.
The crew of the Congelados Africamar – Clínica Jorgani received the award for the most consistent boat of the day at the end of the day. Afterwards, there was a lunch prepared by the organization and a fun day of jolateros. And throughout the day, the youngest can enjoy children's workshops and jolatero regattas in the bay of Arrecife.
The XXVI Canary Islands Championship of 5-Meter Latin Sail Barquillos will continue on Monday. From 16:00 hours the last scheduled regatta is disputed, where the emotion will be maximum due to the tremendous equality that exists at this moment in the first positions of the general classification.
