J. Lasso C. /Photos: Elena Arrocha.- The IV edition of the César Manrique-Puerto Calero Regatta ended last Sunday with success in organization and participation. In the morning, the fifth and last of the races that made up the competition was held. A new victory for the intractable CAM of Fernando León confirmed him as the winner in the IMS 500 class after entering first in four of the races held, only the Puerto Calero-Hesperia skippered by Josele Doreste could scratch a victory in this class, it was in the second race on Saturday when the Lanzarote boat dominated the race course.
In the general classification after the CAM and Puerto Calero-Hesperia, La Maison de L'Elephant commanded by David Tur was classified.
In the IMS 600 class, the victory went to the Gran Canaria team of Audi Compal, commanded by José Mari Ponce, three first places and two seconds, were enough to take the final victory. The second place went to the Bombardier Illes Balears of Santiago Monjo, who won the races in which the Majorcans did not. The third place on the podium went to the Gran Canaria boat Juanito of Juan Ruano.
The Comtzier Cepsa commanded by Augusto Escolar gave no options to its rivals in the IMS 670 class, being proclaimed winner in the five races disputed, after him finished the Lanzarote team Yaiza Hotel Fariones of Álvaro Jiménez and the Fumeke of José Juan Lorenzo Rodríguez.
The local fleet had its greatest prominence in the IRC classes, a formula with which they sail in the regattas at the island level. In IRC Regatta, Leonardo Armas Lasso showed the superiority of the Audi, completing the trophy with 2 first places and 3 seconds. After him, the Naralso of Francisco Naranjo and the Boyuyu skippered by Alfonso Lasso de La Vega from Tenerife were classified.
In IRC Cruiser, the Tenerife boat Gaggeneau with Lucio Pérez as skipper was the one that took the victory. The second and third place went to the local Teceda of Pedro Ferrer Espino and Muyay of Aureliano Negrín Hernández.
On Sunday afternoon, the awards ceremony was held, presided over by the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, together with José Calero, CEO of Puerto Calero; Alexía de Grecia, José Francisco Reyes, mayor of Yaiza, and Raimundo Rodríguez representing the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, were in charge of presenting the different trophies.
The words spoken by José Calero, won the biggest ovation of the afternoon by emphasizing once again the hospitality of Puerto Calero as a premise in the organization of the competition. Calero, finished by launching the invitation to all the crews to see them again in the fifth edition of the César Manrique-Puerto Calero.
