The start of the III ?koda Fabia Cup season, held this weekend on the island of Lanzarote within the IV Rally Tías Yaiza, could not have been more spectacular, with a continuous fight for victory between several teams.
Despite the continuous changes in the lead of the race, in the end the victory can only be for one team and, on this occasion, Alfredo Guerra and Gabriel Espino were the winners. A victory that began to take shape in the middle of the race, when Guerra put all the meat on the grill to assault the first place on the podium.
The second place went to Javier Sosa and Kilian Camacho, who were also leaders at some point in the race winning several sections, but an inopportune puncture deprived them of fighting for the victory.
Very good competition from Agoney Díaz and Óliver Hernández, who also partially led the race, until the eighth section of the day in which they lost some time and had to settle for the third step of the podium. Fourth were Ariel Quintana and David Álvarez thanks to their good work and a remarkable evolution throughout the race.
It is worth noting the bad luck, in the form of an accident, of the team composed of Néstor Luzardo and Jordi Díaz, who when they were leaders of the race from the first section, had to abandon in the sixth section of the race due to a road exit.
Already in the fifth position were classified Manuel Medina and Rubén Pérez, who did not have a very good start in the race, but then they were securing this place, ahead of Daniel Ascanio and Alberto León who had a scare in the form of a spin in the fourth section of the day that almost made them lose the rear bumper.
Excellent debut of Abel Mesa and Domingo Expósito in the ?koda Fabia Cup, who with a lot of head knew how to collect their first points, from the seventh position, in this competitive single-brand cup that does not allow errors due to the tightness of its times.
From the eighth place in the general, Isabel Pérez and Jesús Lemes returned to the ?koda Fabia Cup with more desire than ever and thanks to their concentration managed to be the first classified driver, leaving behind them Saul Guerra - Álvaro Fernández, Virginia de León - Omar Godinho and José Antonio Tabares - David Espinosa.
On the other hand, Jesús Díaz and Aitor Cambeiro also had to retire due to a mechanical problem, although they then rejoined to continue competing and could not score in the ?koda Fabia Cup in this first event of the year.
