The works in the El Fondeadero civic center of Puerto del Carmen have been underway since last week, to improve the accessibility and energy efficiency of the facilities. The project, subsidized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, was recently awarded by the Tías City Council for an amount of 330,141 euros to the company Aleima Soluciones Integrales SL.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, the councilor of Tourism and Works, Mame Fernández, and the councilor of Urbanism, Ulpiano Calero, explain that from the Consortium "the procedures have been expedited to start this work as soon as possible", which has an execution period of five months.
“The El Fondeadero civic center needs urgent improvements. The photovoltaic plant is already working, but we have to comprehensively reform the entire electrical installation and provide the building with ramps and elements for people with reduced mobility,” they point out from the City Council.
The construction works, which include dismantling and demolition, consist of providing, on the ground floor, two bathrooms adapted for people with reduced mobility. Two spaces will also be created for the placement of the fire pump, generator set and hydropneumatic or water pump.
Likewise, the exterior pavement will be changed, the stairs will be rectified to comply with regulations, handrails will be placed on all exterior stairs, a stair lift platform will be placed and ramps will be created for accessibility.
Other works will be carried out in the building, such as tiling the bathrooms, painting the walls, installing electricity, plumbing and sanitation for the new bathrooms, and the aforementioned comprehensive reform of the electrical installation.
These facilities include the Tourist Office - which has been temporarily moved to the main building of the Tías City Council - as well as an assembly hall and exhibitions, the Fishermen's Association office and other offices and dependencies used by different groups in the municipality.
