The works of “Urban intervention in Calle Tila-Calle Doctor Cerdeña Bethencourt, Casa Cerdeña environment” have started. The objective of the intervention is to limit road traffic so that the pedestrian character of the roads (C/ Tila and C/ Doctor Cerdeña Bethencourt) prevails, through a Single Platform that places the spaces reserved for pedestrians and occasional vehicles at the same level, but giving the former preference in the use of public space. This work establishes a Single Platform for mixed use of the road in which road and pedestrian traffic will coexist, facilitating access for wheelchair users, elderly people with difficulties getting up or down different levels or those with difficulty overcoming curbs.

The aim is to achieve a better organization of the urban space through “bands” of differentiated uses in which the pedestrian itinerary runs adjacent to the facade line and organizing the furniture parallel to the facades. To this end, the area destined for the placement of urban furniture will be clearly delimited: lighting, benches, planters, litter bins, etc. A minimum number of parking areas will be guaranteed for existing services.

The mayor of the San Bartolomé Town Hall, Alexis Tejera, has stated that "it is very important to make a defined accessible pedestrian route, so the work seeks to provide greater urban quality to the area, guaranteeing the services provided by the road but giving it a more pedestrian character in accordance with its surroundings."

The town of San Bartolomé has this new intervention, in this case in Calle Tila-Doctor Cerdeña, two roads that are of great importance within the town because they give road access to services and public environments such as the Pharmacy, the Health Center, the Funeral Home and the pedestrian environment of Casa Cerdeña, so it is essential that the intervention guarantees the accessible and safe circulation of pedestrians. This work is financed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote with charge to the Island Plan of Works in the Municipality of San Bartolomé 2018, has an award budget of 197,552.31€ and will be executed by the company Hormiconsa S.A.

The Councilor for Works, Raúl de León, points out that "the bands proposed in the intervention will be differentiated by the use of pavements of different color and texture in order to better understand the space and its use. The spatial and aesthetic configuration of the Casa Cerdeña environment will be improved through an urban layout consistent with the needs to be met and with a quality of public space appropriate to our time."
