Tías obtains a subsidy for the gender equality project 'Conecta Tías'

The City Council receives 100,000 euros to execute the project and raise awareness among citizens

The Tías City Council has received a grant from the Department of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands for an amount of 100,000 euros to execute the project Conecta Tías, Gener@ando Conciencia and raise awareness among citizens about the importance of gender equality in all contexts.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the first deputy mayor and councilor for Social Welfare and Family, Nicolás Saavedra, emphasize the relevant role of administrations in the fight for gender equality, "which constitutes one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that we are promoting in our municipality," says the mayor. 

Nicolás Saavedra adds that "gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but it is one of the essential foundations for building a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world." He highlights the importance of the Conecta Tías community strategy from which work is done in citizen participation processes.

Hiring

The project includes the hiring of two social workers, an educator, two social integrators, a sociocultural animator and a workshop monitor from this Monday until December 31, 2023.

Its objective will be to develop different actions, such as soft skills workshops, awareness-raising actions on equality, creation of groups with women Meetings with coffee and creation of groups with men Hand in hand, among other activities.

According to the project, "it will address the empowerment and active participation of women to work on identity, self-expression, autonomy, self-esteem, etc., favoring variations in the stereotypes imposed by society, so that they are active generators of their own change both personally and family and in their environment. In addition, spaces of belonging will be provided for meeting, reflection and personal development where they can feel safe and express themselves freely." 

The project revolves around raising awareness among citizens about the importance of gender equality in all contexts: family, education, employment, leisure and free time, community, health, legal field, etc. This is an important step for change through actions of participation, reflection and dialogue.
