The City Council of Tías has trained different workers in recent months for the correct use and operation of the 4 defibrillators with which it has equipped the municipal sports centers and the Civil Protection units. The Municipal Sports Center of Tías, the La Tiñosa Football Field, the Civil Protection ambulance and from now on also the Civil Protection coordination vehicle have defibrillators. These devices will allow prompt action in the event of cardiorespiratory arrest in people who are in those sports facilities or attend events organized by the City Council.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, and the Civil Protection coordinator, also Local Police officer Tomás Ramírez, presented these defibrillators this Friday. In addition, the government group announced that soon the Tourism offices in Puerto del Carmen (one on Avenida de las Playas and another in El Fondeadero) and the Municipal Theater of Tías will have defibrillators.

In Tías, 1.5 million tourists stayed last 2016

"From the City Council of Tías we are working on the training of the people who are going to handle it, within the cardiovascular risk prevention program, to turn Tías, a municipality where nearly 50 percent of the tourists who visit Lanzarote stay, into a cardioprotected territory, one of the largest in Lanzarote", they point out from the City Council, which recalls that in Puerto del Carmen nearly 1.5 million tourists stayed overnight during the past year.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, highlighted in the presentation that it is important to equip and work to have defibrillators that allow acting quickly. "The incorporation of defibrillators to the Civil Protection Units of Tías, in this first phase, is important as they are vehicles that assist all events that are organized or have their headquarters in the municipality of Tías, including the Ironman of Lanzarote, or the parades of the Carnival of La Tiñosa, the most crowded on the Island, among others", adds the City Council.

The coordinator of Civil Protection of Tías, Tomás Ramírez, highlighted that currently the Civil Protection Unit has "the valuable collaboration of the 15 volunteer human resources" that comprise it and made a call for those people who wish to be part of this unit as volunteers.
