Three weeks after the Euro-African Summit, illegal immigration breaks records for deaths, disappearances and detentions

Between July 10, the date of the summit, and the beginning of August, the figures related to illegal immigration suggest that this phenomenon is moving towards record and never recorded figures before.

There are four geographical points that allow us to have a global idea about this phenomenon: Canary Islands, Morocco, Libya and the heart of Africa.

Regarding the heart of West Africa, the press of countries such as Mali, Niger, Senegal and Mauritania speak of migratory flows that go to the Senegalese and Mauritanian coasts to reach the Canary coasts, and also speak of other flows to the coasts of Libya to reach Italy.

Morocco registers fewer and fewer sub-Saharans, but Libya receives thousands and thousands of undocumented immigrants with the aim of reaching the coasts of Libya. Regarding the Canary Islands, it has become one of the hottest spots for illegal immigration internationally for receiving about 150 sub-Saharans daily for months, just after Morocco tightened surveillance of its maritime and land borders.

In the last three weeks, there have been four shipwrecks, one in Morocco, another in Senegal, the third off the coast of Libya and the last off the coast of Tunisia, in addition to the deaths that arrived in the canoes to the Canary Islands. The figures are terrifying, more than 50 bodies rescued, about a hundred missing and two thousand detained. However, we must add the victims who died at sea and will never be known and recovered, there are even those who dare to speak of double the known figure.

Analysts in different forums and platforms of the international press who said that the Euro-African summit was just an exchange of ideas without providing pragmatic solutions that are noticeable in reality, are right and it shows that the phenomenon of immigration is far from being solved with a summit with resolutions without monetary funds to be applied.
