The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) will include next week the tender for the works in the Arrecife neighborhood of San Francisco Javier. This was stated on Monday morning by the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Fajardo Feo, on the Buenos Días program of Radio Lanzarote.

In this way, the rehabilitation plan for this area, budgeted at 700,000 euros, can be carried out because after five months the Ministry is about to finish the procedures to terminate the contract with the UTE and the optional Management, whose disagreement generated a series of administrative and legal problems "totally alien" to both institutions, which have delayed the works for up to three years, and of which both the Government of the Canary Islands and the Arrecife City Council exonerate themselves.

On the other hand, the highest responsible for Tourism of the Autonomous Executive recalled that the tender for the Islote de la Fermina has already been published in the BOC "so in fifteen or twenty days the works will begin".

Other aspects

Looking ahead to Christmas, Manuel Fajardo Feo highlighted that a slight recovery in tourism is observed since "from the data we have from tour operators and travel agencies, the winter has not started off on the wrong foot, we hope that this recovery trend will consolidate in the coming months".

Meanwhile, the administrations are trying to improve the services offered by the sector. On this aspect, the Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands explained that the administrations carry out their fundamental function of providing the necessary tools for the restructuring and modernization elements to occur.

"What is true is that thinking that we are in a fundamental moment of tourist change worldwide, within this year's budget law some more or less important items have been included for the restructuring process.

Thus, for the restructuring and rehabilitation of lodging establishments, mainly extra-hotel establishments, an item of three million euros has been enabled," said Manuel Fajardo Feo, who also announced that another item of more than six million euros has been enabled for shock actions in tourist areas.

In this way, the head of Tourism said that he believes that steps are being taken for rehabilitation "even with certain conditions for the purchase of old lodging establishments." However, Manuel Fajardo Feo took the opportunity to highlight that the participation and co-responsibility on the part of the businessmen is also necessary "who after all will be beneficiaries together with the Canarian society that the tourist system continues to function".

Tourist beds

On the other hand, and in reference to a problem that worries both on the Island and that of tourist beds, the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands pointed out that when he arrived among the commitments he acquired was to try to solve the problems of clandestinity and irregularity that exist within the tourism sector.

"And for that, an important item was enabled to reinforce the inspection and sanctions system. In addition, for that we are going to have in the next budget law that will be approved if nothing happens on the 22nd an item of almost 720,000 euros, which will allow to improve the system of the current inspectors and also incorporate many more, which will reinforce the system trying to remove from the market those beds that disturb the normal development of the tourist system", concluded Manuel Fajardo Feo.
