The governing council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has authorized this Wednesday the cooperation agreement with the seven town councils aimed at financing the Program of Economic Aid for Social Emergency Situations, to which it will allocate 867,000 euros.
The approved agreement foresees transferring this amount to the town councils, in accordance with the budget item provided for in the Strategic Subsidy Plan, with a distribution based on REF criteria (85%) and unemployment data from September 2024 (15%).
According to this distribution, Arrecife will receive 156,924 euros, Haría, 18,652; San Bartolomé, 48,226; Teguise, 58,916; Tías, 52,126; Tinajo, 21,386, and Yaiza 43,770.
These contributions allow municipal social services to act more quickly in the face of unforeseen expenses, family emergencies, loss of income, or other situations that prevent basic needs from being met. The agreement also includes technical monitoring by the Cabildo, the corporation reported in a statement.
Added to this investment by the Cabildo of Lanzarote are the aids granted directly by the Specialized Service for Social Inclusion and Intervention.
So far this year, this service has managed the processing of 395 economic emergency social aid and technical aid requests, referred by the town councils, which have represented a total investment of 467,975 euros.
By adding the direct aid from the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the subsidies approved this Wednesday for the town councils, the island's investment approaches 900,000 euros (867,975).
The president, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that this agreement "represents a fundamental instrument for maintaining the social cohesion of the territory and ensuring that no municipality lacks the necessary resources to act quickly in critical situations requiring an immediate response".
