The socialist senators of the Canary Islands constituted this Thursday in the Upper House a Canarian territorial group in order that "the voice of the Archipelago be heard in all committees" that are created in the Senate, according to the representatives of the islands in Madrid.

From the PSC in Lanzarote they inform that one of the first initiatives undertaken by this group will be to speak with the organs of the parliamentary group "to be represented in all organisms", said the spokesman for the newly created territorial group, Arcadio Díaz.

The senator for Lanzarote, Marcos Hernández, who participates for the second consecutive term in the socialist territorial group in the Chamber, also positively valued its formation since "it allows to participate and defend the interests of the Canary Islands". "We want awareness to be raised about the singularities of the archipelago and in this way we can emphasize its defense," said the representative from Lanzarote.

Marcos Hernández also pointed to the expansion of the group as a new advantage. "In this legislature the number of Canarian senators has increased -eight in total after the elections- so that the needs of all the islands can be transferred and deepened," he said.
