The PSOE of Teguise will request in the plenary session to be held in the capital of La Graciosa this Wednesday, the "immediate reactivation" of the Citizen Council of La Graciosa after more than four years without being convened by the previous Canary Coalition Government.

The socialist leader, Marcos Bergaz, states that “it is time to make decisions on the eighth island and we want to do it by listening to its people.” “The multitude of pending issues – continues the spokesperson – such as the PRUG, the load capacity, the establishment of an ecotax, the automobile park, its conservation and maintenance, etc., should be treated in listening mode, but also from the brave decision-making”.

For this reason, the Socialist Team of Teguise and La Graciosa considers the reactivation of the Citizen Council of La Graciosa a priority, “thus giving full meaning to the celebration of the next plenary session in the capital of La Graciosa”.

In the same plenary session, the PSOE will urge the government group to develop a project to improve the image and homogenization of the signage, furniture, terraces or signage of La Graciosa. “We will all agree – argues Bergaz – that La Graciosa is one of the most special and different places in the Canary Islands, a unique space in which citizens and the natural environment, residents and tourists, must coexist with the commitment to preserve it for future generations”.

With a view to reinforcing its differentiation, the socialists “believe it is convenient to design a project to homogenize and improve the image of signage, terrace furniture, awnings, umbrellas, signage, etc., of the eighth island, including measures that encourage and facilitate its implementation, as well as the modifications that should be incorporated into the affected municipal ordinances”.

Participatory budgets

In addition to the motions relating to La Graciosa, the PSOE will demand greater rigor in the participatory budgets announced by the CC-PP-Vox tripartite. “We welcome the initiative – announces Bergaz -, however, we consider it appropriate to provide transparency, legal certainty and methodology to this process because it does not clarify who can participate, the selection formula for the proposals, their viability, the use of secure participation channels...”.

The socialists understand that the process must be reliable and credible, so they will propose that the City Council provide itself “with a regulation or bases that regulate said participation process in a similar way to what other municipalities have done”.

“In other words – adds Marcos Bergaz -, we consider it a step that in this mandate the "but if we with the meetings in the towns with the neighbors already tell us what we have to do, what is more participatory than these meetings" as the Government used to answer, and it is decided to add other forms of listening and citizen involvement that must be regulated to give confidence to the participatory mechanism”.

Finally, and as usual, the PSOE invites the citizens of Teguise and La Graciosa to follow the deliberations of the plenary session that will be held this Wednesday, October 4, at the CSC Caleta del Sebo on the eighth island starting at 10 a.m.
