On December 31, 2025, a tragic incident occurred on the coast of Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, when emergency services were alerted to a possible drowning in the difficult-to-access area between Playa de Las Mujeres and Caletón de Cobre
According to the report from the Security and Emergency Consortium, upon receiving the alert from the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES), a team composed of the Guardia Civil, Local Police, and an ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) immediately proceeded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a man in critical condition and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers
Firefighters continued resuscitation efforts, joining forces with SUC personnel and taking turns among the different security forces present at the sceneDespite the efforts, when a medicalized ambulance arrived to reinforce the care, the doctor who attended to the man certified his death after several hours of intervention. The Civil Guard then authorized the transfer of the body from the beach to a more accessible area, where it was guarded by the Civil Guard until the arrival of the Judicial Police
