The PP Yaiza will request honors for Victor Fernández Gopar and Pascual Calabuig

“They are very different figures but both loved Yaiza and our land, so what better way to institutionalize the recognition that both figures have among our neighbors,” says the candidate for Mayor, Juan Monzón

The Popular Party of Yaiza will present a motion to a next municipal plenary session so that the City Council "recognizes with honors two emblematic people who, in different ways, have been linked to the southern municipality, such as Victor Fernández Gopar and Pascual Calabuig", says the municipal spokesperson and candidate for Mayor, Juan Monzón.

Specifically, in the proposal, the Populars will request the appointment of Favorite Son, posthumously, for Victor Fernández Gopar; "the simple and self-taught poet of Las Breñas, whose verses in the form of seguidillas are known and valued by the society of Lanzarote, and to whom the Title of Honorary Councilor was already granted posthumously".

The second proposal will be that of Pascual Calabuig as Adoptive Son, posthumously. Calabuig Porcal, a Valencian based in Gáldar, in Gran Canaria, developed an "important work as a sports journalist and for more than fifty years he spent long seasons in what he considered his second home, Playa Blanca", explain the Populars.

“They are very different figures but both loved Yaiza and our land, so what better way to institutionalize the recognition that both figures have among our neighbors”, says Juan Monzón, who trusts that when the time comes, the proposal will enjoy the unanimity of all the political forces represented in the plenary session.
