The PP denounces that "there is no progress" in the new socio-health center of Tahíche

"There has been no foresight and during this last year they have not started working on an alternative plan. We are once again facing a fait accompli policy where the families are once again the victims," denounces Jacobo Medina

The PP of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has denounced that the island government group "has not made any progress" in the last three years regarding the Tahíche socio-health center

"The island government is not aware of the serious problem facing the island due to the shortage of residential places for the elderly and dependent people that we have been dragging on for more than a decade", denounce the popular ones.

The popular ones point out that until now "there is no evidence that the works of the new Tahíche socio-health center have even been resumed", which was scheduled to be completed during this term. "They have been paralyzed practically since the first stone was laid in May of last year," say from the PP. In this regard, it should be remembered that last March the Cabildo of Lanzarote announced that it had initiated the procedure to "terminate the contract with the awarded company", which was UTE Residenza Sanitaria, due to the "breaches" of the company

The councilor of the Popular Party, Jacobo Medina, points out that the fact that the execution of the project has to be tendered again is causing "a very serious delay with respect to the initial forecasts".

“If we start from the basis that the 130 residential places contemplated for the center were already very limited due to the high demand, the situation obviously worsens if we take into account that we cannot even count on them in the short term”, explains the councilor, who already last April assures that he demanded the president Dolores Corujo, in plenary appearance, that she specify “how and how many of these places are going to be able to be compensated throughout the year”.

For the popular ones, this is a "crucial and especially worrying" issue in that more than a hundred dependent people on the island are waiting to enter a residence, a right that assists them when their situation of vulnerability is already legally recognized. “We understand that this type of project is a matter of social emergency and as such they must be addressed by the public administrations that, above all, must guarantee that their rights are fulfilled”, Medina denounces.

“At the moment, the only thing we have is the announcement that more socio-health places are going to be created, but the Cabildo has not yet been able to specify either the number, or whether they would be of low, medium or high requirement, so we are still in the same situation, with the same uncertainty”, adds the councilor.

The popular ones consider that both the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands are "failing to fulfill their functions". “They were aware of the problem with the company in charge of the construction of the new center and that there was a very high probability that the procedure would have to be reversed and return to the starting point, which is what has finally happened", criticizes Jacobo Medina.

“In this case, there has been no foresight and during this last year they have not started working on an alternative plan. We are once again facing a policy of fait accompli where the families are once again the victims”, insists the PP councilor.
