The Popular Party of San Bartolomé has once again claimed a bike lane for the Playa Honda avenue and has demanded that the City Council rectify its plan for the area, after the telematic meeting convened by the government group with the residents to present the problems and needs of the town.
The deputy spokesperson for the PP, Sergio Tejera, who participated in the meeting, states that "the star topic of the meeting was precisely the prohibition of bicycles circulating on the avenue, highlighting the discomfort of the residents with the decision adopted by the government of Alexis Tejera".
“During the meeting, the residents made clear their disagreement with the prohibition and also conveyed their complaints about the implementation of the cycle streets as an alternative to the avenue. An initiative that has certainly not been well received by the citizens, who continue to demand that the government open up this maritime space,” says Sergio Tejera.
For the Popular Party, “it is essential that the government listen to the residents and rectify its decision”. “What we must do is commit to regulation and awareness to achieve coexistence between pedestrians and bicycles, because prohibiting only leads to failure,” insists the councilor.
“We know that a bike lane can be made on said avenue, that priority can be given to pedestrians in the narrower sections, and that if it is not done it is simply because it is not wanted, but in no case due to technical impediments,” defends Sergio Tejera.
The councilor of the Popular Party considers that “what cannot be done is to allege that the measure is adopted to avoid accidents and that when data is requested on these incidents between bicycles and pedestrians on the avenue, no information is provided in this regard”. “From the Popular Party we will continue to demand the bike lane along the avenue and we will carry out as many measures as necessary so that the municipal government reconsiders and reverses its decision,” Tejera emphasizes.
