Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen debuts water park this weekend

Puerto del Carmen will premiere this weekend the first water park to be installed in the sea in Lanzarote. This floating installation, which will be placed on Playa Grande, will have different attractions, such as slides or trampolines. The one-hour circuit will cost 5 euros and will be operational throughout the year during the same hours as the Municipal Lifeguard and Emergency Service.

The Tías City Council had launched a public tender last year for the assembly and management of these nautical facilities, to which five different companies submitted. The Consortium proposed for this tender a minimum fee of 71,172 euros in total, and it has finally been awarded for 41,100 euros for each of the two years of operation.

WATER PARK LIFEGUARDS

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and the Councilor for Beaches, Yolanda García, presented the new facilities this Wednesday together with the promoter and concessionaire who won the contest, Rubén Millares Ortiz, who has another similar park in the province of Alicante.

The promoter highlighted during the presentation that the park had to be built especially for the water of the Atlantic and "taking into account the prevailing currents." Before the contest, the Tías City Council had requested authorization from the Canary Islands Coastal Demarcation for the creation and assembly of the floating PVC structure. The attraction, which occupies a sheet of water of about 600 square meters, will be attended by 6 workers with technical training in lifeguarding and diving.

The mayor pointed out, for his part, that these facilities "will allow the thousands of tourists on the beach to enjoy an alternative offer, in addition to the sun and the beach." Hernández believes that the facilities "increase the nautical leisure offer" for family and sports tourism, sectors in which, he stresses, Puerto del Carmen is "specialized".
