The last councilor to join the Haría government group, Elisabet Socas, will receive 20,000 euros per year for half a day and without having to go to the City Hall, as approved in plenary session on August 24 and published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP).

According to the announcement, the head of Youth and Citizen Participation will perform her duties "on a part-time basis at 50% of the day, dedicating at least 18 hours per week to management tasks in the area, with freedom of schedule, and without the need for her effective presence in municipal facilities".

It should be remembered that Elisabet Socas belongs to the Municipal Platform of Haría and took office as councilor in March 2016 after the resignation of José Torres Stinga, who did not join the plenary session after the last elections, to which he ran as a candidate. Last July, Socas decided to jump from the opposition to the government group, joining it, while her party colleague, Rosa Pérez, submitted her resignation as councilor of the Consistory, being later replaced by Manuel Alejandro Hernández, who also joined the Government, although in this case he is not released.

Seven released councilors

As for Elisabet Socas, the mayor of Haría assigned her the areas of Youth and Citizen Participation, which until then were held by Soraya Brito and María Auxiliadora Fernández, and "will receive a gross annual remuneration of 20,000 euros", as indicated in the BOP. That same salary is the one that Marci Acuña also set for Armando Bonilla, who took office after the resignation of Antonio Ivens in November 2017, and whom the mayor decided to release three months later "with partial dedication" as councilor of Sports, Sports Infrastructure, Road Infrastructure, Conservation and Maintenance of Goods and Services, also adding Mobile Park,

Then the councilor of the Elderly and Equality, María Auxiliadora Fernández, who then also held Citizen Participation, was also released, under the same conditions, a fact that was criticized by Ciudadanos, who denounced that there was an "excessive expense" of having six released in a municipality of less than 5,000 inhabitants, releases to which Socas' was later added. In this regard, the mayor Marci Acuña specifies that Maria Auxiliadora Fernández "is not released, because she resigned before it was effective".

The resolution published then in the BOP also indicated that the position of Councilor responsible for the Technical Office should perform its functions on an exclusive basis, "because it is an area that requires special attention and dedication", noting that the councilor responsible for it, who is Víctor Manuel Robayna, would receive "a gross annual remuneration of 40,000 euros". However, the deputy mayor of the municipality, José Pérez Dorta, explained then that Robayna "was already fully released" and that the only change that had occurred with respect to him is that they had removed the area of the Mobile Park so that he could dedicate "more time" to the Technical Office.
