The mayor of Tías reported that the sewage spills observed in Puerto del Carmen are the product of an incident in one of the pumping stations in the tourist center.

José Juan Cruz Saavedra specified that the two engines of the station burned as a consequence of the action of unscrupulous people who threw wood into the machines.

This is revealed by the company Aguas Filtradas, in charge of providing sanitation services.

Strange coincidences

For the mayor of Tías, it is very curious that the damage occurs in the same pumping station that caused spills in the Hotel Los Fariones area in past months.

On that occasion, as now, neighbors and tourists have expressed their discomfort due to the nauseating odors and because the spills fall on the beach without being cleaned.

The mayor assures that both the Local Police and Civil Protection have taken all measures to avoid negative effects on public health.

"New engines have already been placed in the station, and the situation is resolved," Cruz Saavedra pointed out. A solution to prevent the same problem from happening again, according to the technicians, would be to expand the capacity of the station, but it also does not guarantee that the spills will not fall on the beach when the station overflows. "The only option would be a submarine emissary to the sea," he concluded.

The hangover from the Delta

On the other hand, the mayor maintained that the City Council is making every effort to clear the public areas, affected with fallen trees, by the passage of the Delta, and also has the operation underway to repair the damage to municipal property and urban real estate.
