The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Island Library directed by the Councilor for Education, Youth and Equality of the corporation, Myriam Barros, has launched a free distribution of books in order to promote reading during the summer season.
“These are books that have been donated by citizens and of which there are several copies in the library's collection. Therefore, in our commitment to promote the habit of reading and bring culture closer to all citizens, we have decided to give away the surplus of books to all those who want to”, explains Barros.
For this purpose, since this Monday, July 11, two shelves have been installed in the Island Library, where you can find different titles of children's, youth and adult literature. “At the moment there are between 80 or 90 books available but, as they run out, they will be replenished with more titles”, details the councilor, who points out that there are “about 2,000 or 3,000 in the library's collection that could be given away”.
The books can be withdrawn during the opening hours of the Island Library, which is from Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 22:00, and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 09:00 to 22:00. “You can take up to two titles per person, without needing to be a member of the library”, concludes Myriam Barros.
