The fishermen of Playa Blanca demand adequate infrastructure and a fight against intrusion.

They explained that it is necessary to regulate the "new activities" that, according to the fishermen, are taking place in the area, in order to balance nature. "Above all, avoid the professional intrusion to which fishing is subjected," denounce the members of the Playa Blanca fishermen's association. Intrusion that they consider "disastrous" for the ecosystem and for the professionals in the sector, "who see how their catches are reduced at sea and break the market on land."

Another important point discussed was the need to relocate the pontoons for professionals in front of the Fishermen's Association, as well as a unloading line, the fencing of the shipyard, and the construction of rooms for equipment. They also consider it important to relocate the marine cages and recover reefs, as well as create a sailor's home and a shipyard administration jointly with the City Council.

Last Monday, they met at the facilities of the Playa Blanca Fishermen's Association with the Minister of Fisheries of the Cabildo, Nereida Pérez, the Mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, and the councilors Leonardo Rodríguez and Juan Lorenzo, who, after listening to them, acknowledged that all the issues are not the direct competence of the Cabildo and the Yaiza City Council, but they committed, according to the fishermen, to "promote and help the professional fishing sector by providing the necessary means to improve and avoid this type of situation."
